Outdoor sports
The Hipódromo de la Zarzuela, near the Puerta, is a popular horseback riding facility, where for a moderate fee, amateurs can enjoy a ride on horseback. Tennis fans will find fine courts, and for those who prefer pigeon shooting, the Club de Campo offers superb facilities. The Club Jarama golf course and race track is a must for car racing lovers.
Several public indoor and outdoor swimming pools can be found around the city. The outdoor pools operate between June and September.
For the hunter, Spanish wild goats can be stalked near Ávila at the Gredos National Preserve by arrangement, while red partridge can be found closer to Madrid. Visitors interested in fishing can fish for black bass, carp, pike and trout at the rivers near the city.

Madrid is home to major football (‘fútbol’ in Spanish) teams, with matches played on a Sunday afternoon at either one of the big stadiums. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu stadium is home to Real Madrid and its rival team, Atlético de Madrid, has its home at the Estadio Vicente Calderon stadium.
