Ibiza Travel GuideTravel to IbizaIbiza, in the Balearic chain of islands, is a party island for the younger generation, yet retains a certain amount of historical interest. The island receives plenty of sun, and has some excellent bathing beaches as well as a scattering of natural wonders.
Getting thereIbiza Airport is just south of Ibiza town and receives direct traffic from many European destinations. Those on package holidays will usually get a free transfer to the hotel, but there are always several shuttles and a plethora of taxis eager to transport the independent traveller. By car, take either the ferry from Barcelona or Valencia (both, eight hours). In the high season, book the car ferry ahead of time as space is limited. There is also a fast passenger ferry that runs from Barcelona twice daily and takes three hours. Alternatively, you can fly from Barcelona or Valencia, for approximately €55.
Info on Ibizas Key attractionsIbiza town is the number one destination on the island, apart from the surrounding beaches and those at San Antonio. There is an ancient quarter that boasts a striking cathedral with an illuminated clock, as well as museums and art galleries. The real draw of the town, though, is the legendary nightlife which never seems to stop. San Antonio is the largest and liveliest resort on the island. The long, wide bay, with its shallow waters, is ideal for bathing. Stroll along the town’s web of streets, the highlight of which is the well-fortified church. One of the most endearing images is the sunset over Conejera Island, seen from the many terraced cafés. At night, few places in the world rival San Antonio, which features hundreds of bars, pubs, and outrageous nightclubs.
Out and about in IbizaSanta Eulalia del Rio is a beautiful resort town with a less crowded beach. The nearby beaches at Cala Llonga (south of Eulalia), Playa des Cana and Cala Llena (north) are the best on the island. The nudist beach of Playa Cavallet lies to the south of Ibiza town. Also in the south are the salt flats, La Salinas, providing a picture perfect photo opportunity. Leisure OptionsEvery type of water sport is available on the island, from windsurfing and jet-skiing to snorkelling and fishing. Land based activities include: golfing, horseback riding and go-karting. There are a staggering amount of eateries all over the island to suit every craving, including: fast-food joints, trendy terraced cafés and the finest of seafood restaurants. SafetyHolidaymakers can be susceptible to dangers and annoyances. Pickpocketing is an ever present problem in large tourist areas and visitors should remain alert. Driving and water sports also place the traveller at an increased risk of injury. We recommend you take out adequate travel insurance for you and your family. Weather in IbizaThe sun shines the majority of the year on Ibizia, with high temperatures of 29C throughout the year. Respite is offered from the hot climate, in the cool of coastal resorts, making it a pleasant alternative to the himidty of mainland Spain.
