Ibiza Restaurants

Ibiza has a wonderful cuisine based on seafood and fresh vegetables from the uplands. As there is no truly distinct Ibiza-based style of food, most of the chefs here serve a continental European menu, with fish as a major staple. However, the island does have a few interesting dishes which reflect the people and their surroundings.

Local cuisine

Spanish breakfast is usually eaten twice and Ibiza follows this custom. A light meal such as bread and milky coffee is followed some time later between 10:00 and 11:00 with a café-style meal of an omelet or a sandwich. Churros, simple fried strips of dough, are also popular for breakfast and can be found at street stalls. Tapas bars are a good place to get a light snack and drink during the day, as lunch is typically eaten between 14:00 and 15:00 followed by the ubiquitous siesta. Popular lunch dishes include fade, paella with noodles, fish and crab; servile a la mallorquina, baked fish with a tomato sauce, raisins and pine nuts; and codorniles emborrachados, partridge roasted in a clay pot with brandy and wine.

Dinner starts around 21:00, when restaurants begin serving supper. They often serve food until midnight, as is the Spanish custom. Fish is always the local mainstay and can be found baked, broiled, mixed with rice or put in a stew. Pork is also a staple of the island diet and is usually made into sausages. A specialty of Ibiza is sofit pages, a stew made from three kinds of meat, which are cooked with cloves, cinnamon, garlic and peppers. The island’s most famous dessert is flao, a variation on cheesecake, flavoured with mint and anisette.

Where?

Good food can be found all over the island, with some of the best restaurants located in Ibiza Town and along the beachfront of most resorts. Street food from stalls and tapas bars are also excellent places to stop at for a light snack.
