Getting To GranadaAll travel options are on the table for getting to and from Granada: the city has an airport and buses and trains arrive here daily from major centres. Although Granada Airport is only a regional airport, flights arrive here from a limited number of UK cities via budget carriers. Flying to Granada is the easiest option, while high-speed trains run from Madrid and other large cities, and buses come from all directions and offer the cheapest travel option. By carGranada is accessible from all compass points, with direct access from Seville to the west and Motril on the Costa del Sol to the south. Granada lies on the main east-west A92 motorway, which joins up with the E15 (Barcelona to Malaga) motorway to the east; the A92 then runs all the way to Seville. To get to Granada from Madrid, take the E5 south as far as the small town of Bailén, then fork off left onto the E902, which runs all the way to Granada and then onto Montril. Driving distances from major centres include: Madrid to Granada, 260 miles; Barcelona to Granada, 550 miles; Seville to Granada, 160 miles; and Malaga to Granada, 80 miles. By railGranada is one of the main transport hubs of Andalusia and is well connected to other major Spanish cities by high-speed rail services. Two trains arrive in Granada every day from the capital, Madrid, taking between five and six hours; while three arrive from Barcelona (12 hours); four from Seville (4 hours); as well as trains from Malaga. Both high-speed Talgo 200 trains and standard trains run on these routes. Granada’s main train station, Estación de RENFE de Granada, can be found on avenue Andaluces and the ticket office is on calle de los Reyes Católicos.
By busThose who are on a budget have the option of taking the bus, with services from all parts of Spain, especially from other Andalusian destinations. The Daibus runs to Granada regularly from Madrid, while 10 buses per day run to Granada from Seville (3 hours) and other services come in from Córdoba (3 hours). People staying on the Costa del Sol can also visit Granada by bus, with 17 services running every day from Marbella and Malaga, and all resorts in between. Granada’s main bus station, Estación de Autobuses de Granada, is on Carretera de Jaén. By airGranada Airport is located to the west of the city and is an ideal air hub for Andalusia, with domestic flights arriving from centres all over Spain including Madrid and Barcelona as well as flights from the UK. Transfer options to Granada from the airport include buses, airport shuttles and taxis. Buses make a number of stops en-route to Granada and within the city. Granada AirportGranada Airport is only a small facility with limited flights from domestic centres throughout Spain, yet it also receives a small amount of traffic from UK cities with low-cost carriers. Granada Airport is a single-terminal airport with average facilities including three cash machines, bureaux de change and a post office. There is also a café and a restaurant, and a couple of shops with gifts, newspapers and liquor.
Transportation from Granada AirportBuses, hotel shuttles and taxis run to the town from the airport, which is 15 miles to the east. Public buses run six times per day from 08:00 to 19:00, mainly in the morning and evening when the bulk of the flights arrive; buses leave from just outside of Arrivals. Taxis are also available from outside the terminal building. If you plan on hiring a car, the route to Granada is simple; take the A92 east and exit south onto the E902 at junction 241A. The A329 also runs directly into Granada from the airport. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes. One car park offers short-term and long-term parking, and is located across from the terminal. There is also a pick-up and drop-off area situated outside the terminal entrance. As an alternative to Granada Airport, Malaga Airport, to the south on the Costa del Sol, is one of Spain’s busiest airports and receives flights from all over Europe. Malaga Airport is well connected to Malaga by public transport, from where buses and trains run to Granada regularly. There are also flights from Malaga to Granada.
