Fuerteventura Weather
Fuerteventura is situated close to the Sahara coastline and therefore has a climate similar to much of Africa. Because of this, much of the island has a desert like appearance; it is too hot for much vegetation to grow. In the north of the island, temperatures are cooler and therefore much more plant life is visible.
The island experiences hot, dry winds, which are blown across from Africa. These can be felt all year round, although more so during the summer months. The winds prevent cooler winds from forming rain clouds, hence the small amount of annual rainfall. The island does experience occasional storms, blown in from the Atlantic, but these are very rare and occur mainly in the north.
Summer
Without the winds, temperatures can be unbearable, often reaching 40°C. The island has a reputation for being a sunny paradise year-round and this is true for the majority of the time. Occasionally, it may seem foggy, as the winds blow in sand particles that cloud the air.
