Formentera RestaurantsThe island of Formentera shares its traditional cuisine with neighbouring Ibiza. The seafood is excellent and features in many recipes. Local cuisineLocal dishes include: guisat, a stew with potatoes; flaó, a round cake made with eggs and soft cheese; and greixonera, a herb flavoured pudding. To wash all of these culinary delights down, you might want to try frígola, a sweet local liqueur. You can also get excellent grilled meat and stews, which include chopped almonds, a typical Catalonian twist. Formentera cheese is incredibly tasty and popular among tourists and locals alike.
Where to eatFor a small island, Formentera has a superb range of restaurants and beach bars. Many of these specialise in fresh fish and seafood, all at very reasonable prices. Many also promote weekly specials of fresh sardines. These are incredibly tasty and like most other food on the island, extremely good value for money. If you are not a lover of fish, local salads and omelettes are available everywhere as well as other dishes such as grilled meat, potato stews and fresh vegetables. Popular areas for dining out include Port La Savina, which is where you will find the best choice of restaurants on the island; the capital, Sant Francesc, where some excellent local delicacies should be sampled; and Cala Sahona. You will not find the range of international dishes that you would on neighbouring Ibiza, but that is another attraction for the visitors who come here. The local food is to be enjoyed and people are not tempted with the easy option of always choosing something they are familiar with.
