Barcelona RestaurantsBarcelona caters for the tourist crowds with an ample supply of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. There is more local and Spanish cuisine and less influence from international themes such as Irish Pubs, fast food outlets and Asian eateries. Barcelona CuisineThe Catalan cuisine has a strong emphasis on oil, garlic, meat, fruit and salad. As a Mediterranean city, fresh seafood and fish are also popular. Perhaps the most famous unique delicacy here is the tapas, and these bite-sized snacks that are taken with drinks serve as an early evening meal to keep you full until dinner finally arrives much later. Paella is another favourite and these rice dishes are widely available in all sorts of combinations at the many tourist friendly restaurants in the Barri Gòtic district. Prices are reasonable but you can spoil yourself at some very impressive places. The ubiquitous pizzeria is ever present alongside restaurants from around the world. Another option for those on a budget is the 'Menjador' - cheap eateries which are located at the back of bars. Where to eatIf you like to be seen and don’t mind paying for it, you just have to have a coffee or light meal at one of the trendy cafés lining the Las Ramblas. Port Vell also offers excellent outdoor dining in the summer, with restaurants open from 12:00 until 16:00 and again from 20:00 until after midnight. To truly escape the tourist fare, seek out the quieter squares in the suburban areas, as Spaniards eat out as a way of life and these places are always a delightful al fresco discovery catering to the locals.
