Rio De Janeiro Weather
Rio has a tropical climate, with annual daytime temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C. The city’s weather is affected by the Serra do Mar mountain range, which gives a wider range in temperature and rainfall throughout the city than would be expected. The areas close to the mountains are generally a lot cooler than those close to the coast, although temperatures are pleasant year-round.
Throughout the year, Rio boasts over 130 hours of sunshine a month. Tropical storms and hurricanes are rare in Rio, but flash floods and the resulting landslides pose serious threats to the city.
Winter
The best time of the year to visit Rio de Janeiro is from December through to February, which is the city’s summer season. Temperatures can be very high during this period, but there is often rainfall throughout the night which cools things down. This time of year is also the peak season, so resorts and hotels will be busy.
