Buenos Aires Transport
Buenos Aires is serviced by an efficient and cheap public transport system, consisting of buses and a subway system; although the subway system (subte) only covers the city centre, with bus services being more widespread. The subway operates between 05:00 and 22:00, and it tends to get very crowded during the rush hours and very hot in the summer. As the streets are organised in a grid pattern, it is easy to navigate the city and many people believe that the best way to explore it and absorb its character is on foot.
By train
Buenos Aires has a rail network that services the suburbs, while the subte (South America's oldest subway system) is a quick and efficient way to get around the city centre. Five subte lines operate from Monday through Saturday from 05:00 until 23:00, and on Sundays and holidays from 08:00 to 22:00. The flat fare is 70 centavos, or you can buy a pass that is valid for 10 trips.

By bus
Buses operate in Buenos Aires 24 hours a day. There is a minimum fare, with the price increasing depending on the distance travelled. The fare is paid into an electronic ticketing machine on the bus, which accepts coins only. The Guia T, available for purchase at bookstores, news kiosks or on the subte, is a comprehensive guide to the bus routes and schedules.
Taxis
You will find many taxis available on the street, and fares are inexpensive. You should be aware, however, that street taxis are not always safe,. You will find that remises and radio-taxis are a much better option. Radio-taxis can be hailed on the street, and can be recognised by their rooftop plastic light boxes. To request a taxi by phone, two recommended options are: Taxi Premium (tel: +54 11 4374 6666) or Radio Taxi Blue (tel: +54 11 4777 8888). These services are used by the better hotels.
