Be Safe in Scottsdale

Safety

Despite being on the edges of a major urban metropolis, Scottsdale is a very safe city to visit, even at night. Law and order are well-kept and police are readily available and highly visible. The wonderful night-time weather encourages most of the population to come out and enjoy themselves after dark. This has created a general laid-back feeling, where relaxing is of paramount importance. Plus, with the wealthy population of Scottsdale in control, most of the less-desirable elements of Phoenix stay in the other parts of the city.

This being said, Scottsdale’s reputation as a place for the rich often proves too tempting for criminals. Violent attacks do occasionally happen, but not often. Theft is the biggest problem, but is mainly targeted at vehicles, not individuals. So while the chances of you getting mugged are slim, always remember to lock your rental car and never have any belongings on display.

The main health concern in all desert communities is the sun. The climate in Scottsdale is one of the hottest in the world and the sun is very strong, even in the relatively cool winter months. Always wear sunscreen when you venture outside, even if it’s just around town. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Dehydration is common, even when you’re just out shopping. The desert has its share of nasties, so look out for rattlesnakes and black widow spiders when trekking around the parks. If an accident does occur, don’t worry. Phoenix has several world-class hospitals and medical facilities. Scottsdale even has a branch of the famous Mayo Clinic.
