Savannah Leisure

Savannah is a great place for outdoor activity, with its balmy climate and lots of water. Being a laid-back town, most activities are rather leisurely such as fishing, boating or a round of golf. This is a beautiful part of America, so get out there and enjoy it.

Biking

There arent many towns better suited for cycling than Savannah. There isnt much traffic, except during rush hour, so you can bike all over the Historic District admiring the mansions and old squares. Cycling is one of the best ways to see the city, and most inns and hotels provide bikes for their guests.

Fishing

Charter fishing trips are available for both offshore and inshore excursions, where you can try for sea trout, red drum, flounder, grouper and snapper to name a few. Tybee Island and Thunderbolt areas have plenty of charter boats, many of which also do sunset cruises and dolphin watching trips.

Golf

Visitors can play golf throughout the year in this part of the country. Savannah claims to have the first golf course in America, established in 1794. There arent any courses in the downtown area, but within a short drive you can take your pick.

Nature tours

Theres some really interesting nature around Savannah, and some of the organised tours offer a great way to get out and experience it. Charter trips captained by naturalists go to the Barrier Islands to collect shells and watch for wildlife. You can also take a dolphin watch cruise when the shrimp boats come back to port with the dolphins predictably in tow. There are also some fascinating wetlands on Tybee Island.
