Santa Fe Weather

Santa Fe is one of those rare cities that is blessed with pleasant weather nearly every month of the year. Four distinct seasons mark this high desert environment, each with its own beauty. Thanks to its lofty altitude, summers are not too hot. Thunderstorms punctuate most afternoons with dramatic displays of lightning and a refreshing rinse of the ubiquitous dust. Nights are typically cool and pleasant.

Winters are cold and dry with occasional snowstorms that blanket the flat roofs of the adobe houses with a lovely white layer. Even though it can get quite cold, this is one of the most beautiful times of the year, especially on a clear starry night.

Sublime skies

When people describe New Mexico, the incredibly vast and bright skies are usually mentioned. Artists and photographers have flocked to this part of America for decades simply to capture its magical light.

One of the finest times to visit Santa Fe is during the autumn in late September and October. The bright yellow cottonwoods are stunning against the blue skies and the temperatures are perfect. Braided strands of red chillies hang in windows and a sense of completion permeates the city.

Spring is perhaps the least impressive season. The weather is cold and temperamental, the scenery lifeless and brown, and rains make everything muddy.
