It’s hard to find bad accommodation in Santa Fe. From the historic downtown adobe inns to the funky motels along Cerrillos road, the standards are almost universally high. Nothing is particularly cheap, especially if you want to stay somewhere with quintessential Santa Fe style, but the experience is well worth the price. The iconic adobe architecture of New Mexico reaches its zenith in Santa Fe, and contributes more than anything else to the city’s unique and wonderful atmosphere.

Amazing adobe

The most stunning hotels can be found along the downtown Plaza, where 300-year-old adobe structures simply ooze character and style. Paseo de Peralta is the main avenue, and everything around here is within walking distance of the Plaza, which is a distinct advantage. There are dozens of quaint bed and breakfasts in this area, all made from converted adobe homes. Even the cheaper motels found on the south side of town, along Cerrillos road, roughly follow an adobe design. 

The one thing to keep in mind about lodging is the seasonal nature of tourism in this city. Many of the more famous downtown hotels will be fully booked throughout the entire summer, and most places raise their rates during this period. Conditions peak in the third week of August, when Indian Market takes place, and you can almost guarantee there won’t be any vacancies. 

Airport hotels

The closest major airport to Santa Fe is in Albuquerque, about an hour’s drive to the south. There are a handful of hotels located directly at the airport or within easy walking distance such as the Wyndham Albuquerque Hotel and Comfort Inn Airport. It’s very convenient to stay in one of these hotels if you have an early flight or get in late.
