Santa Barbara Weather

Santa Barbara’s climate is usually mild and sunny year-round, without any real off-season. It has a pleasant climate, with relatively stable temperatures.

Spring and summer

Spring may bring the usual early morning fog and afternoon sunshine, but it also begins the warming trend toward summer, when average temperatures range around 20°C along the coast.

Summers are warm and dry, but June may bring early morning fog along the coast, locally known as the ‘June gloom’, which usually dissipates by midday. The hottest months are July, August and September, with temperatures averaging around 24°C, although higher temperatures may occur.

Winter

The winter months bring wetter and cooler weather, and in January and February, temperatures drop to around 12°C. The cold, fierce winter ocean storms that plague many California coastal resorts are generally not felt here. Santa Barbara’s average annual rainfall is around 15 inches, about the same as many desert resort communities.
