San Francisco Weather

The Pacific Ocean helps keep San Francisco cool and clean all year round. Summer is the warmest time of year, as the rains tend to dry up, and the sun sparkles in the clear blue sky. But even in August the weather can turn cool, especially at night when chilly winds blow in from the Pacific. Summer also brings most of the citys trademark fog, which often blankets the area in the morning hours before burning off around lunchtime. Spring and Fall are equally pleasant times to visit San Francisco. The weather remains good but there are far fewer tourists, offering visitors a more personal experience with the city and its residents.

Staying warm

One thing about San Francisco is that the weather can be quite chilly any time of the year. The trick to enjoying this cool weather is to dress in layers. Most mornings see a chilly fog rolling in off the Pacific Ocean, requiring a sweater and even a woolly hat to keep warm. By lunchtime, however, the sun burns off the fog, leaving beautiful blue skies and pleasantly warm temperatures. By stripping off a layer, you can stay comfortable all day, because once the sun sets, youll need to put that sweater back on.
