San Diego Weather

San Diego is blessed with some of the finest weather on the planet, boasting a mild climate, good air quality, low humidity and blue skies virtually year-round. Temperatures rarely reach points of extreme, with an annual average of 20C and a low of only 12C. Surprisingly, San Diego receives very little precipitation. Most of the rain falls in January and February, but even then, showers only lasts for part of a day or two days at the most. The downside is that by July, the countryside is parched and brown, and wildfires are a real danger.

June Gloom

The springtime months of February and March are arguably the finest moments in a continual parade of glorious weather. This is when the countryside is at its greenest and the flowers are in bloom. Its normally a bit cold for swimming in the ocean, which keeps the droves of summer tourists at bay. As summer begins to surface, San Diego experiences a local phenomenon called June Gloom, where a layer of fog rolls in every morning and doesnt burn off until noon or later. This isnt necessarily a negative thing, as it adds a wonderful ambience to the mornings.

Warm winters

October and November are also wonderful months for a visit. At the tail end of summer, the water temperature is very comfortable for swimming and days are warm and sunny. The Santa Ana winds - blasts of hot dry weather that can last for days - typically pester the area between September and December, but they are unpredictable. From mid-December to March, grey whales can be spotted migrating along the coast. This is also the coolest and rainiest time of year, but thats a very relative description; because even at its worst, San Diegos weather is amazing.
