With superb weather virtually year-round and a location along some of the finest coast in California, San Diego is an outdoor lovers mecca. Most of the activities in this city revolve around the beach and the ocean, but theres also Americas largest urban park to explore as well as professional football and baseball games if you just want to watch.

Spectator sports

San Diego has two professional sports teams if you want to experience Americas athletic scene. The Padres play baseball in the MLB from April through September at downtowns brand-new gorgeous PETCO Park. If American football is more your style, you can watch the Chargers play their home games at Qualcomm Stadium from August to December.

Horse racing

Live thoroughbred racing happens at the lovely Del Mar Race Track from late July to mid-September. Races are held at 14:00 every day of the week, except on Tuesdays. San Diego also plays host to a number of high-profile horse races at various times of the year.

Golf

With over 90 golf courses in San Diego County and more than 50 of them open to the public, this city is one of the premier golfing destinations in the US. The courses come in all locations and styles, from big views of the Pacific to hilly desert landscapes. Among the star courses are The Meadows Del Mar, Maderas Golf Club and Barona Creek. Surfing

With so many beaches on its doorstep, San Diego is a very popular surfing destination. The best waves can be found in late summer and early autumn. Hot surf spots include Windansea, Imperial Beach, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach.

Beaches

San Diego is blessed with 70 miles of sandy coast and more than 30 individual beaches which cater to surfers, swimmers, sailors, divers, sunbathers and walkers. Even in the spring and winter, when water temperatures are too cold for bathing, the beaches are still wonderful places to walk or jog. Among the nicest and most popular beaches are Mission Beach, Coronado Beach, Mission Bay Park, Pacific Beach and La Jolla Cove.
