Be Safe in San Antonio

Most visitors to San Antonio enjoy their stay without incident and the statistics for crime and accidents are lower here than in most other tourist areas of the US. However, basic precautions should be taken to ensure a trouble-free stay such as taking out travel insurance, which is essential.

Safety

San Antonio is a lot safer than many other cities of its size elsewhere in the United States, although that is not to say that you should let your guard down here. Always try to remain vigilant for pickpockets when out and about in town, especially when in crowded places such as on the River Walk, and take extra precautions if partaking in dangerous activities.

Health

There are no special health requirements to be aware of when visiting the San Antonio area, bar making sure tetanus and polio jabs are up-to-date for yourself and your family. It does however get very hot between June and September, and using a high factor sun block when out and about is a good idea.

Travel insurance

Although not obligatory, health insurance is a must for visiting anywhere in the US due to the very high costs involved with medical treatment. There is no free medical care for citizens or visitors and proof of insurance or payment upfront is usually required before a hospital will treat you.

A good travel insurance policy will cover you for medical eventualities, loss or theft of your baggage and personal belongings or trip cancellation.
