San Antonio Entertainment

Dining, drinking and entertainment are all served up in large portions in San Antonio. The restaurants are unending and of every category, the theatres rival those of most sizeable cities in Texas and there are numerous bars and music venues in attractive areas of the city.

Eating out

San Antonios offering of eateries is extremely diverse and there is something for every occasion, from romantic, hidden spots to the all-American diner with greasy, scrumptious buffet options. In addition, just about every budget is catered for, from cheap eats to high-class establishments. Most restaurants and cafs can be found in downtown and along the River Walk.

Local cuisine

Although San Antonio has a definite slant toward the taste of Mexico, it is represented by many cuisines from around the globe including French, Greek and Italian bistros, tavernas and trattorias as well as Thai, Caribbean and Irish eateries. Seafood and barbecue is also firmly on the menu, as is freshwater fish.

Theatre and music

There are plenty of theatres in San Antonio, but the Majestic and Empire theatres have the biggest and best shows. On the music scene, Latino has a big influence and the German polka/northern Mexico ranchero known as Tejano music is very popular here. The nightlife is also vibrant and is aimed at all persuasions and age groups, with wine bars, lounges and regular bars galore. North Street Mary's, also known as the Strip, is still popular for restaurants and lounges, while the more touristy River Walk area is best-known for its clubs.

Shopping

The shopping is also good here, with plenty of the usual modern malls loaded with chain stores as well as a significant number of independent shops and trendy fashion boutiques; the Alamo Heights district is renowned for the latter. There are also many art galleries and flea markets, one of which is the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico.
