Salt Lake City Leisure

The Salt Lake City area offers a huge choice of outdoor activities. The nearby mountains are famed for their excellent skiing and snowboarding, while the summer season offers trekking, fishing and camping.

Skiing

Some of the country's most popular ski resorts such as Solitude, Snowbird, Deer Valley and Park City are within a 40-minute drive of the city. The resorts see frequent storms due to the lake effect weather. Less popular sports such as ski-jumping and luge can be found at facilities constructed for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Summer sports

Most of the ski resorts also offer summer activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and camping. Many of the reservoirs and rivers in the Wasatch Mountains are also popular for water-related activities including boating, fishing, canoeing, white-water rafting and water skiing.

Fishing

The Great Salt Lake itself has marinas on the south shore and on Antelope Island. Trout fishing can be found in the rivers feeding into the Great Salt Lake, although no fish can live in the lake itself.

Spectator sports

The National Basketball team, Utah Jazz, play at the Delta Centre. Matches are usually sold out so get your tickets early. The Utah Grizzlies are, the local hockey team and can be found in the E Centre. If you want to see a game of minor league baseball, the Salt Lake Stingers play at Franklin Covey Field.
