Getting to New York
Visitors headed for New York can choose from a range of options for getting there, with arriving by air the most popular choice for those coming from abroad. New York is served by three airports: John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), La Guardia Airport (LGA) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The efficient Amtrak railway network connects the city to other parts of the US Greyhound coaches are another alternative, providing a nationwide network of comfortable bus services.
By car
Interstate 95 leads into New York from Boston to the north and Washington in the south. I-81 goes northwest to Ontario Lake, while I-78 leads in from the west from Newark. I-87 heads north to Albany and the Canadian border, while I-91 leads north to Hartford.
By rail
New Yorks Penn Station is located on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets and provides connections to and from key US destinations. From Boston, the journey can be made by train in 3 hours 35 minutes, from Philadelphia in 1 hour 30 minutes, while from Washington, DC, it takes 3 hours 20 minutes. By bus
New York is connected to the extensive Greyhound coach network, serving most major US destinations. The Greyhound bus terminal is located at 625, 8th Avenue.

By air
New York is served by three airports. John F Kennedy International Airport is only 15 miles southeast of downtown Manhattan. This airport provides efficient service and excellent facilities. LaGuardia International Airport is just eight miles east of New York City. It serves mainly American airlines. Newark Liberty International Airport is only 16 miles southwest of New York. It serves a variety of airlines, many American, and handles both international and domestic flights.
New York airports
John F Kennedy International Airport has nine terminals and offers a wide range of eating, shopping and disabled facilities. Information desks are located in the airports Terminal 6 building and there are also airport information desks in Terminal 3, Terminal 7 and Terminal 8. New York LaGuardia International Airport operates seven main terminal buildings and four concourse areas. Information desks can be found throughout the airports central terminal building. With three main terminal buildings, airlines at Newark Airport usually board from their designated terminal. A popular duty-free outlet sells a broad range of tax-free goods, and there are also news-stands and many restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
New York airport transportation
JFK Airport has regular bus services connecting the airports terminal buildings to central New York, including Grand Central Terminal, the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Penn Station. A light rail system connects each terminal with the regions rail transit network. LaGuardia International Airport is served by many regular public buses connecting it to central New York. The Delta Water Shuttle offers a fast and scenic way to travel into Manhattan. Regular shuttle buses connect the airport to the Marine Air Terminal and the crossing takes around 25 minutes. Newark Airport has recently connected its internal monorail to a new station servicing both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit lines. Olympia Airport Express and the SuperShuttle Manhattan provide direct services to downtown Manhattan. Olympia Airport Express and AirPorter have direct links to Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
