Nashville Transport

Downtown Nashville is fairly small and can easily be managed on foot. The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) operates bus services throughout the greater Nashville area. The new Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge provides a magnificent scenic view of downtown Nashville and the Cumberland River, and is open to pedestrians and cyclists every day from dawn to sunset.

By bus

The Nashville Metro Transit Authority (MTA) operates bus services in the greater Nashville area. If you’re staying a week in Music City, then buy a seven-day pass. MTA even has bike racks on the front of its vehicles, which are complimentary.
The Central City Night Owl Service offers transit services from the Downtown Transit Mall to any MTA bus stop within the Briley Parkway boundaries. Buses only travel to MTA bus stops that are on regular bus routes. No additional fare is required. Phone: +1 615 862 5950; website: www.nashvillemta.org.

By car

Nashville has good roads, but as the centre is easy to get around on foot, there is little need for a vehicle in the downtown area. Interstates including the I-65 (north-south), I-40 (east-west) and I-24 (northwest-southeast) provide access to the centre, with I-40 being the easiest route for accessing Music Row and Broadway.

Taxis

Taxi services are plentiful in Nashville, but it is much easier to book one by telephone than to hail one on the street. If the booking has been made some time in advance, it is wise for travellers to telephone again on the day to confirm. Some of the main companies are Allied Cab (tel: +1 615 883 2323); Checker Cab (tel: +1 615 256 7000); Music City Taxi (tel: +1 615 262 0451); and Yellow Cab (tel: +1 615 256 0101).

From the airport

The Gray Line Airport Express services the downtown and west end hotels of Nashville from Nashville International Airport. Services begin at 05:00 and run until 23:00. Buses depart every 15 to 20 minutes from the airport and every 30 minutes from most hotels.

The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has a bus route that serves the airport. Route 18-Elm Hill Pike/Airport has services to downtown Nashville and departs nine times each weekday and four times daily on Saturdays and Sundays. The schedule for this route is available at the Welcome Center, located on the Baggage Claim level.

Taxis, hotel shuttles, limousines and buses all depart from the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the terminal.
