Getting to Myrtle Beach

There are a variety of ways to reach Myrtle Beach, with arriving by air being one of the most popular. Myrtle Beach International Airport does not offer an extensive list of routes, meaning that international visitors will normally have to arrive at Atlanta’s or Charleston’s international airport before taking a connecting flight to Myrtle Beach or transferring by bus. Alternative means of travel include arriving by Greyhound bus or indirectly by Amtrak train. Myrtle Beach’s excellent road connections also makes it easy to drive here.

By car

Myrtle Beach is accessible by car via Highway 17, which runs north-south, following the coast all the way to Beaufort, past Charleston. Alternatively, Myrtle Beach can be accessed via a highway that travels inland to connect with I-95, a major north-south route that connects Washington DC in the north with Miami in the south. From the I-95 junction, drivers can connect to I-20, which links to Atlanta and beyond.

By rail

Myrtle Beach is not directly connected by rail, but it is possible to arrive at Charleston, just south of Myrtle Beach, using Amtrak services. Amtrak trains connect Charleston with Washington DC in the north with Miami in the south.  There are also further connections possible to Tampa, New Orleans and New York City. From Charleston, there are regular buses running to Myrtle Beach throughout the day.

By bus

Greyhound buses connect most major towns in the US, with services coming in from Charleston in the south and Wilmington in the north. Buses drop passengers off at the bus terminal on 7th Avenue. Travelling by Greyhound bus is the cheapest way to arrive in Myrtle Beach, with services running frequently. It is not necessary to book your ticket in advance; just arrive at the bus station 1 hour prior to your departure.
