Myrtle Beach Entertainment

This South Carolina hub of activity is renown for its lively events and entertainment. If it is fine arts and culture you are after, perhaps this is not the perfect location for you, but if it’s fun-filled music, dinner shows and festivals with an informal feel that you are searching for; this is the town for you. The city’s two frenetic entertainment hubs - Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing – provide many of the venues, while cinemas, bars and theatres across the city and its suburbs also contribute to Myrtle Beach’s dynamic entertainment scene.

Nightlife

Entertainment can be found in many different varieties at Myrtle Beach, with most visitors enjoying a few drinks after a delicious meal at one of the city’s many bars. Broadway at the Beach is one of the most popular areas for evening entertainment, offering top-class restaurants and a selection of bars. Alternatively, along the beach, you can find other nightspots, most of which have a comprehensive drinks list. Barefoot Landing is another popular entertainment zone, featuring bars and eateries that stay open late.

Theatre and music

Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing are the two most popular evening entertainment areas, where you will find live music and DJs alongside delicious eateries, bistros and bars that stay open late. Myrtle Beach also offers a selection of karaoke venues as well as country music, themed bars and dinner shows.

The city’s festivals are also a great time to catch some music, with the Sun Fun Festival in June showcasing live music concerts and the Dog Days of August Blues and Jazz Fest in mid-August offering lively musical entertainment. Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show is a year-round highlight, combining music, singing, dancing and comedy.

The city offers plenty of movie theatres, if you want to catch the latest in Hollywood blockbusters.  If live theatre is your thing, head along to the ALABAMA® Theater at Barefoot Landing, which hosts concert series and holiday shows. Alternative theatres include: Ghosts and Legends Theater, where ghosts tell the stories; Palace Theater, home of Le Grande Cirque; and Legends in Concert, where superstar impersonators perform live on stage.

Festivals

As a lively, fun-filled location, it is no surprise that Myrtle Beach has a fully-booked events calendar, with the city embracing events across the spectrum. Get ready for some memorable arts events as well as food festivals and musical extravaganzas, with some of the liveliest being:

  • National Shag Championships in March see shag dancers contest against each other, a dance which originated in Myrtle Beach. Five divisions are marked by the championships judges, who then agree on a winner. The champion appears on national television, with an opportunity to show off their dancing skills.
  • Myrtle Beach Bike Week in mid-May sees bikers from across the US gather for this Harley-revving festival. Expect to see lots of leather and tattoo-clad motorbike enthusiasts in town, and a chance to enjoy music and stunt shows.
  • Summerfest is a celebration of the arrival of summer, held from early June to early September. The boardwalk at Barefoot Landing fills with market stalls and entertainers, while there is an impressive firework display two evenings a week throughout the festival.
