Myrtle Beach Restaurants

Myrtle Beach has a strategic location on the Atlantic coast, ensuring its reputation as the seafood capital of the state. Restaurants specialising in seafood line the beach and the year-round mild weather has helped to encourage a growth in al fresco dining and eateries with quaint outdoor seating. Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing and Restaurant Row are perhaps the most popular places to dine; however, they are also the most touristy and crowded.

Theme restaurants are popular in Myrtle Beach, with everything from the Hard Rock Café and KISS coffeehouse to Planet Hollywood and the NASCAR café. Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show is a favourite, as is Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, providing jousting tournaments as entertainment while you tuck into a medieval banquet.

Where to eat

Broadway at the Beach is an ideal dining venue for those looking for a lively night out. Conveniently situated among bars and nightclubs are Italian bistros, Irish-themed pubs, American-style grills, seafood eateries and Japanese steakhouses. Restaurant Row on Highway 17 is a hungry travellers delight, with the road lined with diners and eateries ranging from steakhouses and seafood joints to international cuisine such as Italian and Japanese.

Barefoot Landing is another popular complex where people come to eat. It offers waterfront restaurants in a range of price brackets, from the sophisticated to the casual. Favourites here include seafood houses such as Joe’s Crab Shack and Crab House; American-style quick eats at Ultimate California Pizza and T-Bonz Gill and Grill; and international cuisine at the likes of Yokoso Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar.

If you want to eat somewhere away from the tourist masses, the coast is liberally dotted with ocean-side eateries, while most major shopping centres have extensive fast-food options.

Local cuisine

Start the day with a hearty Southern breakfast.  These can be enjoyed anywhere, from high-end hotel restaurants to inexpensive diners. Expect the meal to fill you up for the whole day, with bacon, tomatoes, country ham, eggs, grits, beef hash and pancakes pilled onto a plate.

Fried chicken joints, waffle houses, steakhouses and barbeque pits are common, while Mexican and pizza are available on every corner. Dishes are frequently served alongside traditional cornbread, and don’t miss out on the region’s favourite dessert: pecan pie, a deliciously sweet tart that’s made with pecan nuts.
