Getting to Mobile
Located in the centre of the Gulf Coast, Mobile is easily accessible from everywhere in the world. There are many ways to arrive at Mobile. Most tourists choose to fly to Mobile Regional Airport from other major destinations in the United States of America. Alternatively, you can also get here by rail, bus or by car.
By air
Mobile Regional Airport is the main airport in Mobile, located about 18kms west of the business area. The airport is served by several airlines which provide non-stop flights to several cities in the southeastern United States. Major airlines include American Airlines, American Eagles, Delta, Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines and US Airways, which offer connections to Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Orlando, Cincinnati and Charlotte.
Facilities for passengers include a small bookshop, many restaurants, car rental booths and a small arcade. The airport is disabled-friendly and located only 20 minutes drive from the downtown Mobile area.
By rail
Trains connect Mobile to other cities in the country. The citys Amtrak station is located next to the Arthur R Outlaw Mobile Convention Center in the city centre. You can make rail reservations or buy tickets from the station. Alternatively, for more information, call: +1 800 872 7245.
By bus
You can also arrive in Mobile by bus. Greyhound Bus Lines connect Mobile with other destinations throughout the United States. The bus terminal is conveniently located on Government Boulevard. For more information, call: +1 800 231 2222.
By car
Travelling by car to Mobile is made very easy by I-10 and I-65, which intersect Mobile. The Arthur R Outlaw Mobile Convention Center is only minutes away from the intersection.
Taxis
In Mobile, you cant hail taxis, except from the airport. You need to reserve your taxi in advance by telephone. Taxi companies in Mobile include Cab Service Inc. By tram
In Mobile, everyone knows the Moda. It is a free and fun electric trolley that runs around the downtown Mobile Bay, with 22 stops featuring businesses, Government Plaza, the courthouse, restaurants, bars, shopping venues, parks and many hotels.
Taking one of these trolleys is a quick and hassle-free way to explore downtown Mobile without having to worry about your car. The first stop is at the Fort Conde Welcome Center where you can also buy a copy of a Moda map. Services are available from Monday through Friday, from 07:00 to 18:00.
