Where to stay

Many of the hotels can be found in the downtown area or St Paul. There is a wide range of accommodation including the main hotel chains, mid-range privately owned hotels and guesthouses. Staying in the central area is safer and more convenient for visiting the attractions. A lot of the hotels near the Minneapolis Convention Centre on the south end of downtown connect directly to the event centre. From here, visitors can get skyway access to the rest of downtown. There are dozens of cheap motels line along Interstate 494, otherwise known as the Bloomington Strip. It's a convenient location close to the airport and the huge Mall of America. The University of Minnesota is a good place to stay when the schools are quiet. The campus is a vast area covering parts of both sides of the river, known as the West Bank and Main. There are many options in this part of town, especially along University Avenue. Farther afield, the attractive riverside town of Stillwater has many grand old guesthouses and motels and historic farms.
