Minneapolis Restaurants

The selection and diversity of restaurants in Minneapolis is almost unlimited. Choices range from family-style home cooking, candle-lit dining rooms, outdoor cafes and intimate little snack bars. The city's restaurants combine ethnic influences, local charm and hot new trends. Visitors will have no problems finding somewhere suitable to eat and no-one should leave still feeling hungry. Minneapolis boasts some excellent home-grown chefs as well as a number of international names.

Where to eat

In downtown Minneapolis, there are many restaurants lining Nicollet Avenue, also known as "Eat Street". The Warehouse District, slightly northwest of downtown, is the city's main entertainment area with a huge choice of restaurants and nightspots. The southerly Nicollet neighbourhood, the Uptown and Lyn-Lake areas and the university's Dinkytown also have many good places to eat.

Minneapolis is renowned for its ethnic restaurants and some of the better places can be found on Nicollet Avenue, Grand Avenue in St Paul, and The West Side. The cuisine has been influenced by Scandinavian and German ancestors, and more recent immigrants are introducing other ethnic foods. Some of the specialities to look out for are walleye pike, Minnesotas state fish, and wild rice which can be found in many of the Asian restaurants.
