There are many professional sports teams in Milwaukee, so there is ample opportunity to see a game of football, ice hockey or baseball. Greater Milwaukee also has plenty of recreational sports for visitors to participate in.

Activities

There are plenty of recreational activities in and around nearby Lake Michigan. Salmon fishing is especially good in these waters and there are several companies that organise fishing trips. Lake cruises are also very popular and easy to organise. If you're feeling adventurous, then have a go at windsurfing during the summer months. The afternoon breezes are consistent and not too difficult to cope with.

The Pettit National Ice Centre is an indoor ice skating facility featuring two international-size ice rinks and a 400-metre speed skating oval. It is one of only eleven 400-metre ovals in the world, and is a renowned Olympic training facility. The rink also hosts a skating school and offers classes for children and adults in figure skating, hockey and speed skating. Public skate hours vary, with evening sessions common. Skate rentals are available for a good price.

Wisconsin has some good rock climbing venues. The most popular and highest quantity of climbing can be found at Devil's Lake. There are plenty of other scattered crags in the state for those who are willing to drive and explore.

Spectator sports

Milwaukee is famous for its sports teams, particularly baseball and basketball teams. The Milwaukee Brewers have a large and enthusiastic following and games are played at Miller Park, just outside of downtown. The new stadium is certainly worth a visit for an organised tour, even if you don't want to see a game. Tickets are usually quite easy to get hold of on game days, so just turn up and watch.
