Be Safe in Madison

Despite being a mid-sized city, Madison, in general, is a safe city to visit even at night. Law and order are well-kept and the Madison Police Department is a progressive agency committed to the philosophy of community-oriented policing. The pleasant nightlife scene encourages the majority of the students to come out and enjoy themselves after dark. This gives the city a relaxed ambience, where having a good time is more important than quarrelling.

However, Madison is a significant city and thus has its share of crime. The well-visited tourist areas of the city and the university stomping grounds are generally free from violent attacks, but they do occasionally occur. Theft here is mostly targeted at cars, not people. Dont leave you rental car unlocked or you may lose your valuables.

Safety

The risk of having a traffic accident is higher when you drive in an unknown country or city, especially on long trips without regular breaks, and many water-based activities are potentially hazardous. Pickpockets operate in the busy centres of Madison and Milwaukee, so it is advisable to remain vigilant. We highly advise you to take out sufficient travel insurance for you and your family before travelling to Madison and other parts of Wisconsin.

Health

The principal health concern in Madison and other parts of Wisconsin is the state's climate, as there is a significant and extreme difference between the climate during the summer and the winter. Summers can be very hot with lots of sunshine, while the winters are very cold with plenty of snowfall. If an accident occurs, Madison has several good hospitals and medical amenities.
