Las Vegas Leisure

Its not all glitz and glamour in Las Vegas; there are many wholesome recreational activities to engage in here at ‘Sin City’. Just beyond the north end of the Las Vegas Strip is the Las Vegas 51s minor league baseball team that plays at Cashman Field. In order to work off the calories from the famous all-you-can-eat buffets, there are a few other ways besides your hotel swimming pool and gym. There’s the Fiesta Ice Arena, an excellent climbing gym, and a multi-use Sportspark. For the more outdoor inclined, Las Vegas has several decent golf courses and just outside the city are several national parks, with great hiking, camping and nature trails.

Roller coasters

There are four roller-coasters on the Las Vegas Strip: the Manhattan Express at New York-New York; Canyon Blaster at the Adventuredome; the roller-coaster at MGM Grand Adventures; and the High Roller at the Stratosphere. The MGM theme park is probably the best, although for sheer terror factor, head for the High Roller. At 350 metres, the Stratosphere is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the US and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. Thrill-seekers can enjoy excitement over 100 storeys above the ground on the Big Shot thrill ride and the High Roller roller-coaster.

Car racing

Billed as the only banked oval super stock car track in the west, the Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix is a seven-acre park with racing available in adult Grand Prix cars, go-karts and kiddie karts. Four different mini-tracks are available, and they are all fitted with lights so that you can have fun in the cool of the evening. Phone: +1 702 259 7000; website: www.lvmgp.com.
