Be Safe in Kona

There is very little to worry about in terms of health and safety on a visit to Kona. However, visitors should be aware of driving etiquette and road rules, as this is a hilly island with many narrow, rural roads.

Safety

There are few pick-pocketing or bag-snatching incidents here, and on the whole, the island is very safe for visitors. However, all visitors should be responsible with their belongings and not attract undue attraction by flashing money or wearing lots of jewellery. We advise you to leave your valuables locked up at your hotel safe when going out and about.

Health

Medical expenses can be very expensive and it is highly recommended that all visitors travel with an insurance policy that gives them medical coverage, especially if intending to participate in underwater activities.

It is not necessary to drink bottled water at Kona, as water from the tap is safe for consumption.

Travel insurance

Anyone who visits a foreign destination should obtain a comprehensive travel insurance policy. For a few extra pounds, the policy will offer much in terms of security, peace of mind and reimbursement should any unfortunate incidents occur. Ensure that your policy includes medical coverage as well as coverage of accidents, theft, lost luggage and delayed flights as a basic requirement.
