Kona Entertainment

There are many pleasant ways to spend an evening at Kona. Many visitors like to walk along the coast and enjoy the views, then stop at a caf and take in the interesting people that pass by. Of course, you can also have a delicious meal at various restaurants, visit art galleries and perhaps even take in a cultural show.

Eating out

There is plenty of good food to be savoured at Kona in a variety of restaurants and cafs along Alil Drive in the centre of town. U-Top It is a very popular venue with tourists and it serves a good teriyaki beef plate. There are normally queues to get in. The Big Island Grill at Hanama Place is also popular with locals and tourists.

Restaurants can be found all over Kona and it isnt difficult to appease your appetite here. Other places to try include Quinn's, for a good sandwich; Kona Inn, a beautiful bar and restaurant that overlooks Kailua Bay; Kona Beach Club Bar and Grill; and Bubba Gumps for cheeseburgers and fries. There are also several fast-food joints including McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway and Pizza Hut.

Local cuisine

The local food has been greatly influenced by the mainland and includes steaks, potatoes and salads. However, fish is more commonly eaten here on the islands. Locals usually order a plate lunch, which is two large scoops of rice and one or two scoops of macaroni or potato salad. This is served on a plate along with Kalabi barbequed or grilled beef, or Teriyaki beef or chicken.

Theatre and music

Some hotels have cultural shows that showcase a wide variety of local dances, songs and other forms of entertainment including magic. Tourists can also book tours that offer them an opportunity to experience some Hawaiian culture and learn about their tradition and history.

Shopping

Shopping is very enjoyable at Kona. Savvy shoppers can visit the Kona Coast Shopping Center for designer clothes, electronic items, souvenirs and just about anything else. Speciality shopping for arts, crafts and other Hawaiian items can be found downtown on Alil drive.
