Knoxville offers plenty for visitors to take in during a trip here. Many of the sites have historical value and visitors will be able to learn about the many conflicts that have shaped Knoxvilles unique character. However, there are also many other interesting sights to enjoy for those who arent interested in the history aspect.

Several daytrips can be made to numerous interesting sites surrounding Knoxville; however, one of the more popular trips is to Jackson County, home to the majestic Smokey Mountains. Another great trip is to Gatlinburg, where visitors can enjoy great shopping and thrilling rides at the theme park which is located nearby.

Activities and leisure

In addition to the regular activities including hiking, biking, trekking and others that can be found here, Knoxville also offers some leisure activities that are unique. These include a ride on a vintage steam engine through Knoxvilles picturesque countryside or a cruise on the Tennessee River aboard a stern-wheel riverboat.

Safety issues

In general, Knoxville is a safe place to visit. However, crime occurs in almost every city, and Knoxville is no exception. It is best to avoid being out late at night or after the shops have closed, and to avoid the more shadowy areas.

Visitors are also reminded to be aware of their surroundings and not to be careless with their belongings. There have been cases of pick-pocketing and bag-snatching from tourist sites recently.
