Key West Restaurants

Seafood is the order of the day in Florida, and Key West is certainly no exception.
Lobster, stone crab, shrimp, fish and conch all feature heavily on menus. Key Wests rich cultural diversity, ranging from Cuban to Caribbean, French to Italian, traditional and authentic, makes for a varied selection of eateries. Chefs from the Caribbean and South America and from much of the rest of the world have found their way to these islands.

Local cuisine

Local ingredients include citrus, particularly tiny yellow Key limes, sugar cane, spices, a variety of unusual fruit and apparently never-ending quantities of winter vegetables. Conch is a local favourite, which also refers to a local of Key West (someone born on the island). Conch is the pink meat of a large shellfish. There are numerous ways to prepare conch dishes, including lime-kissed salad, spicy chowder and golden deep-fried fritters. Key lime pie is the official dessert of the Florida Keys and Key West. This pie is traditionally made from the juice of the Key limes. The lime will lend the pie a yellow colour. If it is light green, you can be certain it isnt a genuine Key lime pie.

Where to eat

The largest selection of cafs and restaurants can be found in Duval Street, while Bahamas Village is fast becoming one of the prime areas in Key Wests Old Town for restaurants and alternative dining options. Greene Street and Front Street are excellent locations for seafood restaurants.
