Kansas City Weather

Kansas City is situated almost in the exact centre of the country, as far away from large bodies of water as it is possible to get in the United States. The weather, therefore, is usually a case of extremes. Summers can be very humid, with moist air riding up from the Gulf of Mexico and July to August daytime highs reaching into the triple digits. Winters vary from mild days to bitterly cold, with lows reaching into the teens below zero a few times a year.

Summer

Kansas City suffers hot, humid summer days due to warm air blowing north from the Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures can hit triple digits, and it is not uncommon for temperatures to remain above 32C (90F) for weeks at a time, especially in July and August. While Kansas City has relatively high humidity, its summer weather is commonly clear with almost completely blue skies.

Winter

Kansas City enjoys mild winters with light snow. Temperatures usually stay well above freezing and strong winds blow unchecked over the flat landscape. Snow accumulation occurs 3-5 times per year on average, rarely exceeding 2-4 inches, and usually melts away within a week, if not within 24-48 hours.
