Be Safe in Kansas City

Travel in the US is generally trouble-free, in spite of the pervasive threat of terrorism. As is the case when visiting any major city, be aware of your surroundings and do not put yourself in a vulnerable location. Kansas City is no exception.

Safety

Like most major cities, the tourist and business areas of Kansas City are generally safe day and night, but it is always best to be aware of your surroundings. Most violent crime happens during the late night-time hours. Inner city neighbourhoods east and southeast of the downtown-midtown-plaza areas are experiencing an increase in violent crime. These areas offer little for visitors and are best avoided.

While there are no specific health risks associated with travel to Kansas City in particular, medical facilities are excellent, but expensive. Medical treatment can be refused without evidence of insurance or proof of funds. For visitors, medical insurance or travel insurance with medical cover is essential.
