Kansas City Transport
The preferred method of transportation in Kansas City is the car. Traffic is relatively light and parking is easy to find. The public transportation services are mostly limited to bus systems designed to ease commuter traffic and may not be too useful for visitors looking to explore the city. Another way to get around the city for the more athletic is to use a bicycle.
By Metro and train
In the first half of the 20th century, Kansas Citys mass transit system was light rail with its inter-urban running from Kansas City more than 50 miles in all directions between 1900 and 1939. In addition, Kansas City had an electric trolley network that ran through the city until 1959. However, Kansas City today does not have a subway or light rail system as seen in cities such as New York, Chicago, and St Louis.
By bus
There are public bus services around Kansas City and surrounding suburbs. Kansas City Area Transit Authority provides a metro bus service (phone: +1 816 221 0660; website: www.kcata.org) with arrivals every 5-60 minutes, depending on the time and day you are travelling. Metro Stations are conveniently located at Independence on the Square and Bannister Mall.
In July 2005, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority started a new bus system, the Metro Area Express, known as the MAX. The bus route starts in the City Market in Downtown Kansas City, and has many stops along Main Street, The Plaza and southern Kansas City. Buses run daily from 05:00 to 01:00. Transfers that expire two hours after issue are available from the bus driver. Travellers may purchase a One Day Pass on the bus, and this expires at midnight.
Taxis
As the vastness of Kansas City dictates it to be a motorcar kind of town, for those without one, taxis are quick and readily available, but can be rather expensive for short journeys. There are about a dozen limousine services and twenty taxicab companies in the area, including:
Advanced Suburban Taxi: +1 913 209 9393
Budget Taxi: +1 913 271 3030
Checker Cab Company: +1 913 788 8888
Community Cab: +1 913 362 4644
Kaycee Cab: +1 913 677 0444
Tourist services
Whether you are settling in for a long stay or just passing through, touring Kansas City can be an exciting adventure. From The Grand Tour on the Trolley to a cruise along Brush Creek, a number of guided tours await you. Should you prefer to explore Kansas City on your own, grab your walking shoes; there are many hot spots waiting to be discovered.
From the airport
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority offers hourly service to and from the airport on the number 129 bus, called the I-29 Express, eighteen times a day on weekdays, from 05:00 to 19:00. It operates between an only stop in Terminal C and the downtown bus centre with intermediate stops. A number of private scheduled shared shuttle services operate from the airport to regional cities and military bases. Taxis are easily found located outside each airport terminal, but rates may vary due to traffic delays and waiting time. Car hire companies are also available at the airport.

Kansas City International Airport is a cutting-edge airport with modern facilities that include bureaux de change and other banking facilities are available at the business centre at Terminal A, and ATMs and Internet access available throughout the airport. The airport also has numerous restaurants, bars, coffee shops and fast-food establishments. Various shops are also widely available throughout.
