Be Safe in Jacksonville

Visitors to Jacksonville should be aware that the state of Florida has something of a reputation for high levels of crime, and while this is unlikely to be witnessed or experienced by the majority of holidaymakers; its sensible for visitors to observe a few basic caveats throughout their trip.

Safety

The main issues with regards to safety that visitors need to be aware of are mostly theft-related, but can largely be avoided with care, vigilance and general common sense behaviour. The efforts of pickpockets can be thwarted by keeping wallets and purses in places that are difficult to access, while bag snatchers will rarely attempt to grab a bag that is worn over the head or over both shoulders. Never leave valuables on display in parked vehicles and avoid carrying excessive amounts of cash when out and about.

Health

There are few if any major health concerns for those visiting Jacksonville as hygiene standards are exceptionally high in all public establishments and levels of (non sexually transmitted) diseases are low. The summer brings high temperatures, which can result in dehydration if visitors dont drink enough, while direct exposure to the sun without the use of a sunscreen can rapidly and seriously damage the skin.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is a must for all visitors, as holidaying in any foreign city brings with it inherent risks. However small these risks are to both health and safety and the security of cash and personal possessions, travel insurance is essential.

A comprehensive travel insurance document will provide cover for lost, stolen or damaged personal items as well as for loss of cash through similar predicaments. A policy with ample provision for medical care is also essential or else you may find yourself facing some expensive bills should you fall ill or have an accident that requires medical treatment.
