Indianapolis Entertainment

Indianapolis offers a varied evening entertainment scene with something to suit pretty much every visitor, irrespective of budget or background. A healthy bar and club scene caters to the younger generation while a good selection of cultural venues caters to the older generation. Broad Ripple Village is one of the best places in the city to head of an evening, offering restaurants, bars, clubs, boutiques and galleries.

Nightlife

For bars and nightclubs, visitors are best heading for the downtown district where a good selection of both is to be found. The Broad Ripple Village area is also a hotspot for evening entertainment offering popular venues such as Average Joe's Sports Pub, Union Jack's Pub, Old Pro's Table and the Wellington. In the downtown area meanwhile, venues such as The Slippery Noodle and Club Kameleon are well worth checking out.

Theatre and music

For cultural evening entertainment, check out the Madame Walker Theatre Centre, a venue located on Indiana Avenue that offers performances in jazz, gospel, drama, and dance; meanwhile at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, you can catch performances of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Other venues offering theatre or cultural performances include Clowes Memorial Hall, which houses the Indianapolis Opera, Butler Ballet, and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Lovers of live music can catch jazz performances at the Chatterbox Tavern and the Slippery Noodle.

Festivals

There are a number of annual summer festivals that are unique to the city, with highlights including:

  • The Circle City Grand National Rodeo sees cowboys from across the country assemble to showcase their talents in disciplines such as lassoing and buck and bull riding to the delight of enthusiastic spectators (January).
  • The Indy 500 Festival is the citys premier motor racing event, attracting upwards of 400,000 visitors to its popular selection of motor related events and festivities (May).
  • At the Indiana Flower and Patio Show, visitors are treated to views of displays featuring more than 450 horticultural exhibits with landscape gardening demonstrations offered by 30 guest gardeners (May).
  • The Indiana Black Expo is a celebration of the cultural niceties of the citys Afro-American community and sees performances from famous black artists as well as a other related events (July).
  • The Indiana State Fair runs for about 11 days and offers fun for all the family with its fun park, state fair gardens and pioneer village among other attractions (August).
