Houston Weather

Houstons climate is sub-tropical, influenced by prevailing hot winds blowing in from the Mexican desert, and humidity carried in from the Gulf of Mexico. Summer weather in Houston is exceedingly hot and humid, with heavy thunderstorms occurring most afternoons. In the winter, Houstons weather is cooler and more temperate with no snow, but the occasional rainy day.

Summer

Houston summers are brutally hot and humid, making air-conditioning a necessity. Daily high temperatures peak at around 34C (94F) at the end of July, with an average of 99 days per year above 32C (90F). Afternoon rains are common and for most summer days, meteorologists predict some chance of rain.

Winter

Winters in Houston are cool and temperate. While the average high in January, the coldest month, is 16 C (61F), the city experiences an average of 18 days per year of 0C (32F) or less. Snowfall is rare, and typically does not accumulate if and when it occurs.
