Getting to Hartford

Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks is positioned about 18.5 miles (30kms) north of the city. The facility is served by a number of internationally known airlines, with daily services available to the premier eastern air hubs. For those travelling by road, I-84 and I-91 intersect in Hartford, which is halfway between New York and Boston.

Greyhound coaches link Hartford to many other New England cities and towns. Travelling by bus is the cheapest but not the most comfortable of the transportation options. Amtrak operates several daily trains on the route between New York City and Boston, stopping at Hartford and Windsor Locks. The duration of the trip to either New York or Boston is about 2 hours 30 minutes.

By car

Interstates 84 and 91 intersect in Hartford (halfway between New York and Boston), making the city easily accessible from destinations within northern New England and beyond. Hartford and the surrounding area can be explored conveniently by car.

By rail

Amtrak provides several daily rail services on the track between New York City and Boston, stopping at Windsor Locks and Hartford. The journey by train to either New York or Boston lasts approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. From the Hartford Railway Station at One Union Place, rail services to Springfield, New Haven, New York, Boston, Providence and Washington DC are available. By bus

The railway station at One Union Place is also a principal bus terminal serving numerous bus firms that ply the route between New York and Boston. The cheaply priced Greyhound bus services link Hartford to other major New England and nationwide destinations. Their transport services are inexpensive but this is also the least comfortable way of travelling. The Connecticut Department of Transportation offers commuter and local bus services within the city and the surrounding areas.

By air

Bradley International Airport can be found just 12 miles (19kms) north of the city, in Windsor Locks. The airport receives daily flights from several major airlines, with daily flights to the significant eastern airports.
