Be Safe in Fort Worth

There is little to be concerned about in terms of health and safety on a visit to Fort Worth, Texas. However, travellers should always be alert and mindful of their surroundings, and take note of emergency numbers when arriving in a new city.

Safety

Fort Worth is a safe place to visit, as long as a little common sense is applied. As with most large cities in the west today, it is wise to avoid certain areas once it gets dark. In Fort Worth, the areas to avoid are neighbourhoods in the east and southeast (the area south of I-30, east of I-35 and west of Loop 820).

The downtown areas and Sundance Square are well-lit and there are usually several policemen patrolling these areas, as these are the areas where most tourists spend a lot of time.

Wherever you are, regardless of it being day or night; always be careful when you are visiting a new city. Be aware of your surroundings, dont wear or carry a lot of valuables and act as though you know where you are going and what you are doing.

Health

There are no health risks for travellers visiting Fort Worth. The medical facilities in the city are excellent, but treatment can be very expensive if you are not covered by insurance. It is safe to drink tap water and restaurants maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

It can get extremely hot in summer, with temperatures reaching above 38C, making dehydration a possibility. Drink lots of water if you are in Fort Worth during the summer and it is advisable to apply some sun block to avoid getting sunburnt.

Travel insurance

It is always best to travel with a comprehensive travel insurance policy that covers medical emergencies and costs, lost luggage and property, and delayed flights.

Some unwanted incidents, like theft, loss of property and delayed flights, can occur despite all the precautions that travellers usually take. A comprehensive travel insurance policy can provide peace of mind and ensure that you arent left short.
