Be Safe in Fort Lauderdale
Although the last decade has seen Florida somewhat blighted by high levels of violent crime, Fort Lauderdale is largely safe from a visitors perspective provided they are sensible and observe a few basic caveats. Arranging holiday insurance ahead of your trip can give you some piece of mind that should you be left out of pocket as result of being the victim of crime, you will be reimbursed for your losses at a later date.
Safety
As a general rule, Fort Lauderdale presents little in the way of serious risks to the personal safety of visitors; however, since it is a big city, its still prone to encourage some criminal elements so its advisable for tourists to consider observing a few dos and donts in order to avoid being singled out for the attentions of miscreants. Dont make things easy for pickpockets by stashing wallets in back pockets or similarly easy to reach places; instead keep them in front pockets or in bags that can be locked or are difficult to open. Also avoid carrying excessive amounts of cash so that you minimise your losses in the unfortunate situation that your purse or wallet is stolen. Make life more difficult for would-be bag snatchers by wearing single strap bags over the head while wearing the straps of backpacks over both shoulders.

Health
Fort Lauderdale is a modern metropolis with all the standards and developments you would expect of a large US city and as such, presents very little in the way of health risks to either residents or holidaymakers. Sexually transmitted diseases excepted, there are minimal risks of catching anything serious or life threatening by observing what most people would consider regular or normal modes of behaviour. No vaccinations are necessary prior to entering the city; however, its always wise to check that tetanus inoculations are current before embarking on any foreign trip. Opportunities for injury from water-sport related accidents are obviously present for those participating in these activities and its wise to check the small print of your travel insurance document to ensure that you are covered for treatment required as a result of an accident from your chosen activity.
Health care in the local hospitals is high, just as in any major US city, however, it is also expensive so do make sure that you have holiday insurance with medical cover before you embark on your trip.
