Getting to Fort Lauderdale

Located on the east coast of Florida, just north of Miami and south of West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale is a highly accessible city whether you are an international visitor or a US citizen opting to make your way there by road. Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport provides the chief gateway into the city and is the means by which most long distance travellers arrive here.

By car

Driving to Fort Lauderdale is a relatively uncomplicated affair as the city is served by a number of interstates and highways including the I-95, I-75, US 441, US 27 and US 1. From Miami which, is south of Fort Lauderdale, you can take the I-95; the same road also provides access from destinations north such as Palm Beach, Cape Canaveral, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville. From Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Naples, take the I-75 east.

By rail

A rail service operated by the Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority provides connections between a total of 18 stations in the South Florida district, serving Mangonia Park in its northernmost route and Miami Airport in its southernmost and calling at Fort Lauderdale en route between. An AMTRAK station also serves the city, providing connections with major US destinations.

By bus

By air

Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport is the chief gateway into and out of the Broward County area and is a busy facility handling some 663 commercial flights per day with services to over 40 domestic locations. International destinations include Canada, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico and South America. The airport is a modern facility with impressive passenger services and amenities.

Fort Lauderdale International airport

Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport is a four terminal facility that serves around 22 million passengers per year, making it an exceptionally busy airport ranking 26th in the US in terms of annual passenger throughput. The airports 4 terminals are all within walking distance of one another and each offers its own selection of passenger facilities which between them cover the entire range of essential and comfort-based amenities. For snacks, dining and refreshments youll find branches of Jake's Coffee and TJ Cinnamons in every terminal while those seeking alcoholic beverages will find bars in every terminal also. Shopping outlets vary from terminal to terminal but as a rule, youll find a newsagent and gift shop in each while Duty Free is available in Terminal 4 only. Information desks can be found on both the upper and lower levels of each terminal. ATMs are located in various locations throughout the airport while a bureau de change counter can be found in Terminal 2. Fed-Ex or US Mail delivery services are present in every terminal. Those passengers with laptop computers will find free WiFi access throughout the airport.

Fort Lauderdale airport transportation

Buses provided by Tri Rail and BCT Mass Transit offer connections between the airport and downtown Fort Lauderdale. Services run from stops situated at Terminal 1s west end, Terminal 2s east end and Terminal 4s east end.
