Detroit Weather

Detroit and the rest of southeastern Michigan enjoys a characteristically Midwestern mild and seasonal climate, which is influenced by the Great Lakes.

Summer and autumn

Summer in Detroit is hot and humid, and the hottest month of the year is July, bringing high humidity and temperatures reaching up to 30°C. The autumn weather is usually warm, making this the perfect time for visitors to take in the amazing autumn colours.

Winter

Wintertime lasts from November through March, when temperatures can plunge to below 0°C. In the coldest month, January, the mercury usually stays well below freezing point. During this time, there are periods of snow, which may cause driving problems. Many outdoor attractions also close for winter.

Average monthly precipitation ranges from about two to five inches, being heaviest in the summer months. Rainfall is spread fairly evenly over the year, with a few inches being recorded each month.
