Des Moines Weather

The capital city of Iowa, Des Moines might not be a show-stopper, but it is outstanding in its artistic, historic and natural charms. With a location that touches the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, the city is affected greatly by excessive rainfall. The weather can be quite unpredictable.

Hot and humid summer

Just like other cities in the Midwestern region of the United States of America, the summer, which falls between June and September, can be very hot, with the temperature reaching more than 38C in the afternoons. Des Moines summer is often marked by a high degree of humidity. However, the winter is freezing cold, with the temperature dropping below -18C.

The autumn is probably the most perfect time to visit Des Moines, as the weather is the most pleasant, with the temperature ranging between 10C and 15C on average, ideal for strolling around the city.
