Getting to Des Moines
You can get to Des Moines by many kinds of transports. The fastest and most convenient way is to arrive by air. Des Moines has its own international airport, receiving flights from cities across the country. Tourists can also travel to Des Moines by train or car. Those who wish to drive can easily access the city via interstate roads.
By air
Des Moines International Airport connects the city to many cities in the United States of America. Located in the southern part of the city, the airport is easily accessed from the city centre, with a great number of five-star hotels scattered within driving distance.
The terminal is equipped with facilities for passengers including telephones, ATMs, mother and baby facilities, and a variety of shops and restaurants. Des Moines International Airport is disabled-friendly and provides special facilities for people with special needs such as telephones for people with hearing disabilities and disabled persons toilets. Short-term and long-term parking spaces are available.
By rail
The train does not directly connect Des Moines to other cities, but there is an Amtrak station about 73kms south of Des Moines in Osceola, at Main and East Clay Streets. From the train station, there are Greyhound buses provided to take you to Des Moines.
By car
If you want to drive to Des Moines, the best way to arrive in the city is via interstate, on either I-80, if you come from the east or the west, or I-35, if you come from the north or the south. When you are in the Des Moines area, enter the city via I-235. Driving in Des Moines is an easy task, as the roads are all in good condition and the local drivers are considerate. However, you must be extra careful if you wish to drive during the winter months, as the snow can be quite thick and is always a major cause of road accidents.
Taxis
You cant hail taxis in Des Moines. If you want to use taxi services, you need to call and tell an operator where you are, so that the driver can pick you up.
