Getting to Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach is an easy city to get to whether you make your own way or rely on any of the various public/private transportation options available. The city’s location just off the I-95 allows easy access from a large number of major Florida destinations making your journey by hire car or coach a relatively stress-free experience on most occasions. Amtrak’s rail connection offers another solid ground transport option allowing visitors to bypass the roads, an advantage if travelling during peak hours. The local airport provides some limited international flight options while the nearby Orlando-Sanford Airport provides a more extensive selection of connections.

By car

The I-95 provides access to Daytona Beach from both north and south of the city. Take it as far as junction 261 before exiting onto Speedway Boulevard. The city is located on the east coast hence there are no destinations further east of it. From destinations west follow signs for the I-95 then directions as above.

By rail

There are no rail services direct to Daytona Beach, however Amtrak provides connections from destinations north and south to the neighbouring city of Deland. The Silver Line operates from the north while the Sunset routes operates from the south.

By bus

Bus services to the city of Daytona Beach are operated by the ever-popular Greyhound Bus Company with services from a large number of US cities connecting with Daytona’s bus terminal located just off Highway 1.

By air

By Florida standards, Daytona Beach International Airport is a relatively small facility and does not compare with airports such as Orlando, for example, in terms of passenger throughput. Still, for its size, the airport is a busy facility seeing in excess of a half a million passengers per year. There are two terminals in operation with adequate ground transportation to the city from both of them.

Conveniently situated adjacent to Interstates 4 and 95, Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) is a small airport providing both domestic and international connections. Close to fifteen scheduled flights depart from the airport with largely domestic destinations served. The airport’s domestic terminal is a 160,000 square foot building providing space for the operations of Continental, United and Delta Airlines while the international terminal covers some 60,000 square feet and serves the same airlines. The airport offers basic passenger facilities in both terminals which include ATMs, banks, bureaux de change facilities, limited shopping as well as eateries with a range of refreshments on offer. Car hire is available from the airport with international agencies such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty offering rental services.

VOTRAN operates bus services from the airport on the hour and the half-hour providing connections with the city.

Taxi services, meanwhile, are readily available with four operators on hand; All American Taxi and Shuttle, Beach Taxi, Southern Comfort and Yellow Cab can be booked ahead or booked on arrival at the airport. Alternatively, you may wish to consider renting a car and making your own way to the city as the route is quick and uncomplicated and you will have the freedom to come and go as you please as well as travelling in comfort.
