Daytona Beach Transport

Options are a little limited with regards to getting around the Daytona Beach area and visitors not choosing to hire rental vehicles are obliged to choose between taxis and the city’s public transportation system. Public transport is comprised of buses and trolley buses. The bus service is efficient and covers a large number of destinations but is not perhaps the fastest alternative and those on a tight schedule may not find them suitable. Hiring a car offers both comfort and the convenience of travelling at your leisure.

By bus

VOTRAN, the public transportation system of Volusia County, operates bus services within Daytona Beach offering over 15 separate routes covering a large percentage of the city’s total area. For more information on routes and schedule, visit the official VOTRAN website: http://volusia.org/votran/daytonaschedules.htm. The company also operate trolley buses along the length of Atlantic Avenue from January through to September.

Taxis

Taxis are readily available in Daytona Beach and provide a comfortable, although not necessarily cheap, way of assuring door to door transportation. Unlike many other US cities, taxis cannot be hailed or picked up kerb-side in Daytona and passengers will consequently need to call a reputable company and book ahead in advance of their requirements. Reputable hotels will invariably call a local company on your behalf.

From the airport

Buses operated by VOTRAN run every 30 minutes between the airport and downtown Daytona Beach. Taxis are the only other alternative and while convenient, are considerably more expensive than the bus service. Hire car companies at the airport can provide vehicle rental allowing you to make your own way from the terminal to your onward destination.
